What is mineral silicate paint?

Mineral silicate paint uses an inorganic silicate binder that chemically bonds with mineral substrates like concrete, plaster, lime, brick, and natural stone through a process called silicification. Unlike acrylic paint, which sits on the surface as a plastic-like film, silicate paint fuses with the wall itself through a micro-crystalline chemical bond. Is PureSil safe for homes with children, pets, and sensitive occupants?

Yes. PureSil is a completely zero-VOC (0 g/L), solvent-free formulation, so it releases no volatile organic compounds into indoor air during application or afterwards. The binder is a mineral silicate, the pigments are inorganic, and mould resistance comes from the paint's natural alkalinity rather than any leachable chemical biocide. It clears the most stringent global VOC thresholds, including SCAQMD Rule 1113, making it particularly suitable for bedrooms, nurseries, schools, and healthcare interiors.

How long does PureSil last?

PureSil is engineered for a 20+ year functional life on a properly prepared facade with a single application. Because the silicification bond fuses the coating with the wall's own mineral structure, and because inorganic mineral pigments do not degrade under UV, the coating does not peel, blister, or fade the way film-forming paints do. This effectively removes the routine repaint cycle from the building's maintenance schedule.

What makes PureSil different from conventional paint?

Most paints available today are acrylic emulsions, organic polymers that form a plastic-like film sitting on top of the wall. Over time this film peels, blisters, traps moisture, and requires a repaint every few years. Acrylics also carry VOCs and rely on chemical biocides to resist mould. PureSil is a fundamentally different chemistry. Its RHA silicate binder undergoes silicification, a micro-crystalline chemical fusion with the masonry itself, so the coating becomes part of the wall, breathes vapour freely (sd less than 0.01 m), resists mould through natural pH-11 alkalinity, and contains zero VOCs and zero solvents. It also actively sequesters CO2 from the atmosphere while curing.

Does PureSil prevent mould, mildew, and algae?

Yes, naturally, without added biocides. PureSil has an inherent alkalinity of pH ~11 to 12, which creates an environment that actively resists the growth of mould, mildew, and algae on the coated surface. This is a passive mineral property of the paint itself, not a leachable chemical treatment that wears off over time.

Can PureSil be applied over existing painted walls?

Because PureSil requires a chemical silicification bond with a bare mineral substrate, any existing oil-based, acrylic, or peeling latex coating must be completely stripped away first. On previously unpainted or freshly plastered surfaces (concrete, cement plaster, lime plaster, brickwork, natural stone, fly-ash brick, or unpainted stucco), PureSil applies directly. Does PureSil really absorb carbon from the atmosphere?

Yes. During curing, the wet silicate binder chemically reacts with atmospheric CO2, locking carbon dioxide into the coating itself. A single coat sequesters approximately 3.5 grams of CO2 per square metre. Combined with its 85% upcycled feedstock (rice husk ash and coal fly ash) and 20-year functional life, which eliminates the multi-cycle repaint pattern typical of acrylic systems, PureSil delivers a cradle-to-gate footprint of ~1.2 kg CO2e per kg vs ~3.0 kg CO2e per kg for conventional acrylics.
